Helping Families Handle Cancer was established in 2008 by Carie Stock, a Calgarian and childhood cancer survivor. During her battle with cancer, Carie's mother faced overwhelming challenges as she was newly divorced and pregnant with Carie's brother, Spencer. Despite dire predictions from doctors, Carie triumphed over cancer and has since dedicated her life to supporting families facing similar struggles.

Her non-profit has provided crucial assistance to over 250,000 families who are grappling with the financial burdens of their child’s cancer treatment.

To enhance the impact of Helping Families Handle Cancer, we are excited to host a Dessert Gala in Calgary. This event is designed to raise crucial funds to support families with children undergoing treatment at the Alberta Children's Hospital. The Calgary Co-Op’s generous contribution will play a pivotal role in amplifying this effort, further strengthening Calgary's cancer community.

Your support is vital in helping these families focus on their child's recovery without the additional burdens of financial instability and food insecurity. One of the most frequent needs we address is assistance with meals and grocery bills. Cancer's unpredictability can affect anyone at any stage, and many of us have been personally touched by its impact.
