Downtown Calgary

Green Line LRT Information

by Calgary Downtown Association

The City is proposing changes to the Green Line LRT route to help address construction risk, cost and the customer experience.  In late January 2020, the City released an updated Stage 1 of the Green Line route for public feedback.  While the Calgary Downtown Association (CDA) supports transportation infrastructure that improves mobility choices for Calgarians and brings riders to the downtown core, we have concerns with the changes being proposed to the 2017 Council-approved underground alignment.  Most notably, the new alignment will now be above grade in the north end of downtown and travel by bridge over the river.

 As the importance of this infrastructure investment for generations to come cannot be overstated, we are actively engaged with The City of Calgary, property owners, and ratepayers to ensure that downtown properties and quality of life are not compromised.  Some of our initial concerns include:

  • The proposed portal on 2nd Street between 2nd and 3rd Avenue;
  • The impact of a bridge over Prince’s Island Park; and
  • Mitigation efforts for businesses impacted during construction.

 The City is hosting a series of open houses where you can learn more about Stage 1 updates and provide feedback.  The following open house is happening in our Business Improvement Area (BIA):
